| Southport NewsGood News For Investors| Posted Thursday, January 04, 2007 at 3:13:27 PM | A December 22, 2006 article in the Charlotte Observer reports “North Carolina passed New Jersey to become the nation’s 10th most populated state.” The article continued, “That’s a more than decade-long trend of the Northeast being a net exporter of population to the South.” The population growth is attributed in large part to retirees. In the 1990s many people who moved to Florida initially moved half way back to the Carolinas. Now more and more retirees are coming straight to Carolinas and bypassing Florida altogether, according to the report. For investors that’s great news. Although you may have heard of recent “market corrections” in housing, the coastal Carolina’s continue to be a very attractive investment opportunity. As the trend continues and as more of the population reach retirement age, investments here have the greatest potential for lucrative returns. New International State Port Should Create Nearly 50,000 New Jobs| Posted Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 12:54:32 PM | The proposed North Carolina International Port is expected to bring a massive boost to an already healthy economy. Conservative estimates show that the NC International Port would create nearly 50,000 jobs statewide, and bring in more than $50 million in local and state tax revenue.
The North Carolina International Port will catapult North Carolina into the ranks of major East Coast ports, comparable to Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. The Authority has hired CH2M Hill, an international engineering firm, to plan, design and construct the new port.
The port is in the preliminary stages of planning, and expects to be able to service the new, much-larger container ships being built now to handle the tremendous growth in container traffic. The International Port will allow us to keep up with the growth in traffic, and with the growth in ship sizes.
Most importantly, the International Port will enable our State to compete more effectively for major manufacturing and assembly plants, comparable to BMW and Daimler Chrysler in South Carolina and Airbus in Alabama.
It is easy to see how the Cape Fear region is growing, and will continue to grow for decades to come. Just another reason for someone to call our beautiful area home. | |
